Mustangs fall to 4-2 in THE Spring Games after losses to TSU and TNU

LEESBURG, Fla. – The Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs dropped a pair of games by scores of 2-1 to Truman State and 7-0 to Trevecca Nazarene on Friday morning at Sleepy Hollow.

Morgyn Otte battled through the Truman State lineup in game one, keeping the game scoreless through four innings.

The Bulldogs struck first in the bottom of the fifth, picking up a two-out double to take a 1-0 lead.

The score evened at 1-1 in the top of the sixth after a Bloemendaal sac bunt moved runners to second and third. The Bulldogs would try throwing behind Abby Russell at third base, but the ball went to the fence, scoring Russell.

TSU threatened on the bottom of the inning, getting a pair of runners in scoring position with nobody out. Otte pitched through the threat, striking out the next two batters before forcing a fly out to centerfield.

SMSU's final chance came in the seventh inning, reaching on a leadoff walk and getting the runner to second on a sac bunt. The Mustangs stranded the runner at third and opened the door for a walk off attempt by the Bulldogs.

The game looked as though it would reach extra innings, as Otte compiled a pair of strikeouts to open the inning, but three straight singles brought the winning run across and brought the game to its final score.

Otte (1-4) finished the game allowing a pair of earned runs on 10 hits, walking none and striking out seven.

The Mustangs tallied fur hits, with Russell, Kramolisch, Jillian Noel, and Paige Ahrendt each getting one.

Trevecca Nazarene jumped ahead early in game one, scoring three runs in the first and one in the second, and never looked back in its 7-0 victory for game two.

Karlie Miller (1-4) received the loss, giving up seven runs, six earned, on 10 hits and four walks while striking out six.

Bloemendaal and Molly Bull each recorded two hits to lead the offense, while Kramolisch and Ahrendt added one apiece.

The Mustangs finish their Florida trip on Saturday, taking on Lewis University and Grand Valley State starting at 9 a.m. ET at Legends Way in Clermont, Fla.
