Wenzel, Dulas sweep NSIC Weekly Honors

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Southwest Minnesota State University senior second baseman Keenan Wenzel and junior right-handed pitcher Ansen Dulas were named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, on Monday following sensational performances last week in Arizona.

Wenzel, a native of Rosemount, Minn., batted .625 with 10 hits in 16 at bats in four games, with two doubles, a triple, and nine RBI. He finished with 14 total bases, adding a pair of walks and a hit by pitch. He compiled a .684 on base percentage and .875 slugging percentage. He also took care of business on the field, tallying eight putouts and eight assists without recording an error. The highlight of the week was a 3 for 6 effort that saw him knock in a career-high six RBI in a win over Dakota Wesleyan on Mar. 6.

He has kept it rolling into this week, going 3 for 5 with a double and three RBI in a 12-2 victory against Dickinson State Monday afternoon.

Wenzel, a 2018 graduate of Rosemount High School, has a .542 batting average and .593 on base percentage in six games this season.

Dulas, a native of Mayer, Minn., allowed just one hit over seven innings in a 7-0 win over Concordia-St. Paul on Mar. 10. He threw just 80 pitches, including 52 for strikes. He struck out seven batters in the contest and retired 13 straight hitters from the second through sixth innings. He faced just one batter over the minimum.

Dulas, a 2020 graduate of Watertown-Mayer High School, has been electric on the mound in two starts this season, allowing just one unearned run on three hits and three walks, striking out 13 in 14 innings of work.

It is the first time earning an NSIC honor for both.

SMSU is 8-2 overall after its trip to Arizona, and is scheduled to kick-off NSIC action on Saturday in Sioux Falls, S.D., against Augustana. Game updates will be posed later this week.
