WHITEWATER, Wis. -- The No. 8 seed Southwest Minnesota State University wheelchair basketball team kept its season going on Friday earning a pair of victories at the 11-team National Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball Tournament.

SMSU, which went 1-1 during on Thursday to drop to the consolation bracket, opened play on Friday morning defeating No. 10 seed City University of New York, 72-65, before upsetting No. 4 seed UT-Arlington, 62-59, on Friday afternoon.

The win over UTA was the program's first since the 2006-07 season, snapping a 26-game losing streak.

In the win over CUNY,
Joshua Brown made 13 of 17 field goals for 33 points, while
Emmanuel Fuentes Cervantes added 22 points.
Kendrick Newton chipped in with nine points to help the Mustangs.

In the victory over UTA, Fuentes Cervantes scored a team-high 25 points with
Genaro Perez pouring in 21 points.

SMSU, one of six teams still playing in the tournament, will face either Alabama or Illinois on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
