MINOT, N.D. - The Southwest Minnesota State University women's soccer team (1-4, 1-1 NSIC) defeated Minot State (4-3, 1-2 NSIC) Friday night by a confident score of 2-0.
The Mustangs scored in both halves, with the first coming just five minutes into the match.
Alyson Gallagher chipped the ball over the Minot State keeper for the first Mustang goal in the fifth minute of play.
Emily Maciel also scored for SMSU, taking advantage of sloppy Minot State defense off a corner, punching it past the keeper in the 53rd minute. SMSU had three shots on the day, with all three being on net.
Brooke Wetterstrom tallied one shot on goal in her effort.
Kenna Conley made five saves for the Mustangs, who won their first NSIC contest of the season, and climbed to 1-4 overall, and now 1-1 in the conference.
The performance saw Conley grab her first career win as a Mustang, posting a clean sheet in coordination with the SMSU defense.
Minot State had 14 shots on the night, with six being on net. Beavers midfielder Sofia Galvez had five total shots, with three being on goal. Minot State's best chance for a goal came in the 88th minute off a free kick, deflecting off the crossbar and out of play.
