MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University wheelchair basketball team opens the 2023-24 season this Friday, Saturday and Sunday competing at the third annual Wolverine Invitational hosted by the University of Michigan. The games will be played at the SC4 Fieldhouse in Port Huron, Mich.
The Mustangs open play on Friday with an 8:20 a.m. CDT match-up versus the University of Arizona. SMSU closes the day with a 3:20 p.m. CDT game versus the Brampton Cruisers (Ont.).
On Saturday, SMSU faced the University of Michigan with tip-off slated for 7:50 a.m. CDT. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be played on Saturday with the seventh place, fifth place, third place and championship games held on Sunday.

Derek Klinkner enters his 11th season on the sideline and has four returning letter winners from last season's team that finished 12-7 overall and placed tied for fifth at the national tournament.

Emmanuel Fuentes Cervantes is the team's top returning scorer after averaging 24 ppg, while sophomore
Joshua Brown ranked second in scoring at 16 ppg.
