Marshall, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State University Wheelchair Basketball team went 3-1 on the weekend in the three-team SMSU tournament held on Friday and Saturday in the RA Gym. The Mustangs are now 13-3 in the 2023-24 season.
 
In their first game of the tournament the Mustangs were matched up with the Missouri Tigers. SMSU dominated Missouri to a final score 70-34, Emmanuel Fuentes Cervantes led the Mustangs with 26 points, 18 rebounds, one steal and two blocks. Joshua Brown contributed a triple double to the winning effort with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.
 
In their second game, SMSU faced off with the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks. Emmanuel Fuentes Cervantes contributed 27 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists, three steals and one block. Joshua Brown added 18 points and Fermin Wingerter chipped in 14 points, but the Warhawks were too much for the Mustangs, winning the game 80-65.
 
On Saturday, the Mustangs faced each team for a second time. SMSU earned a second victory over Missouri, Alex Wells had eight points, six rebounds and a steal for the Mustangs. Landon Kruse was second on the team with eight rebounds, while Landon Wherry tied for second on the team with one steal.
 
The final game of the weekend saw SMSU rematch UW-W in a game that went down to the wire, with the Mustangs earning a 62-58 victory. Emmanuel Fuentes Cervantes led the Mustangs with 23 points, 17 rebounds, nine assists and three steals. Joshua Brown continued his strong play, contributing 22 points and 10 rebounds.

The Mustangs will return to action on Friday, Jan. 26, when they travel to Columbia, Mo., to participate in the University of Missouri Tournament against Missouri, Illinois and Edinboro (Pa.).
