Wheelchair basketball set to play in MU Tournament

MARSHALL, Minn. -- The Southwest Minnesota State University wheelchair basketball team is back in action this Friday and Saturday at the University of Missouri Tournament in Columbia, Mo.
 
The Mustangs will play Edinboro University (Pa.) at 4 p.m. and the University of Illinois at 6 p.m. on Friday. The weekend concludes on Saturday with a 9 a.m. game versus the University of Missouri and a rematch against the University of Illinois at 11 a.m.
 
SMSU has won 12 straight games over Edinboro, including winning 77-41 earlier this season at the UWW Tournament. SMSU defeated Illinois 63-57 earlier this season and is aiming to win its third game in five meetings between the teams.
 
The Mustangs are 2-0 against the Tigers this season after defeating them twice in the SMSU tournament by scores of 70-34 and 53-37. SMSU has won three of the previous five games.
 
SMSU, which is 13-3 on the season, went 3-1 last weekend in the three-team SMSU tournament held on Jan. 19-20 in the R/A Facility.
 
Emmanuel Fuentes Cervantes is leading the team in scoring at 25.3 ppg, with Fermin Wingerter scoring 16.3 ppg and Joshua Brown adding 16.2 ppg.
