MARSHALL, Minn. – The No. 25 ranked Southwest Minnesota State University wrestling team fell to the No. 5 ranked St. Cloud State University Huskies by a final score of 44-3 on Saturday afternoon in St. Cloud.
SCSU showed why they are ranked fifth in the NWCA rankings, picking up eight bonus point wins against the Mustangs including three falls, three tech falls, and two major decisions.
Luke Peterson wrestled a close match with Nolan Throne, falling by 4-3 decision.
Caden Steffen, ranked 3
rd at 197 in the latest NWCA poll, wrestled Dominic Murphy, who was ranked 4
th at 197. The match was a close one, with each wrestler earning an escape, however the difference was Steffen's takedown in the third period, which earned him a 4-2 decision victory.
"Tough loss, but good fight," said third year head coach
Chayse Jackson. "They exposed several of our weaknesses and took advantage of a few mistakes and shifts in our lineup. These young guys learned a hard lesson on the importance of little positions.
