ABERDEEN, S.D. - The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team suffered a 4-0 loss to Northern State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action on Sunday afternoon.
NSU improves to 7-6-4 overall, including 6-4-3 NSIC while the Mustangs drop to 2-13-2, 2-9-2 NSIC.
The Mustangs recorded 10 shots with two on net.
Dare Kroeten and
Brooke Wetterstrom led the Mustangs offense with both tallying one shot on goal.
The Wolves posted 25 shots with 15 on goal. Leading the NSU offense was Chole Voss tallying two goals, one assist, and four shots on goal. Jaylee Hofer and Lauren Carpenter recorded a goal apiece and combined for five shots on goal.
SMSU goalkeeper,
Stella Litzen faced 15 shots on goal while recording 11 saves and allowing four goals.
NSU goalkeeper, Alexus Townsend faced two shots on goal, saving both shots.
The Mustang offense saw chances early in the game recording one corner and three shots in the first five minutes.
The Wolves would open the scoring from a corner kick in the 13th minute taken by Chloe Voss who found Lauren Carpenter in the box to net the first goal of the game.
Less than five minutes later, the Wolves were able to extend their lead by another goal off a cross by Megan Fastneau to find Chloe Voss in the box to score the second goal.
SMSU had six shots but none on net while NSU had 11 shots with five being on net. The Mustangs would go into halftime with a 2-0 deficit.
The Wolves would open the second half with another goal by Chloe Voss 26 seconds into the half.
The Mustang offense was held to just two shots on goal in the second half.
The Wolves would add another goal in the 79th minute to close out the game.
The Mustangs will play their final 2024 regular season game in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Thursday, Nov. 7 against Augustana, with kickoff slated for 3 p.m.
