ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State University wheelchair basketball team opened the 2024-25 season with three victories at the Courage Kenny Classic played at Mounds View High School on Saturday.
In their first game, the Mustangs were matched up with the Rolling Timberwolves (DIII). SMSU dominated Rolling Timberwolves (DIII) to a final score 74-39,
Emmanuel Fuentes Cervantes led the Mustangs with 21 points, five rebounds, and two steals.
Joshua Brown contributed to the winning effort with 17 points, three rebounds, and two steals.
In their second game, SMSU faced off with the Kansas City Kings (DII). SMSU maintained dominance in the second game to earn another victory with a final score of 75-58.
Emmanuel Fuentes Cervantes tallied 29 points, eight rebounds, and nine assists.
Joshua Brown added 21 points and nine rebounds.
Landon Wherry chipped in 12 points and one steal.
The final game of the day was against Rolling Timberwolves (D1).
Emmanuel Fuentes Cervantes led the Mustangs putting up a strong 43 points, 18 rebounds, 14 assists, and two steals.
Joshua Brown contributed 21 points and nine rebounds. The Mustangs would win 84-54 to finish the Courage Kenny Classic undefeated.
The Mustangs will return to action on Nov. 22-23, when they travel to Whitewater, Wis., to participate in the Wisconsin-Whitewater Tournament against Alabama, Edinboro (Pa.), Illinois, and CUNY.
