MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team begins its conference schedule with a home dual this Thursday versus No. 16 UMary, for Military Appreciation Night.
The dual is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., in the SMSU PE Gym.
SERIES HISTORY
• Thursday will be the 18th meeting between the two teams, with the Mustangs holding the 9-8 edge in the all-time series.
• SMSU has lost the previous six meetings but has won four of the last 10.
• The Mustangs suffered a 42-3 loss to the Marauders a season ago.
• SMSU is 4-4 all-time at home against UMary.
LAST TIME OUT

Jonah Anderson earned a sixth-place finish wrestling unattached while multiple others won at least three matches at the loaded Nebraska-Kearney/Younes Hospitality Open to lead SMSU on Nov. 23.
• The open consisted of over 50 teams spanning across all levels of collegiate athletics including Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA, and JUCO. Five NSIC schools competed in the meet.
• SMSU had 18 individuals compete in the open on Saturday.
Jonah Anderson wrestled unattached and led SMSU by completing the day 3-3 with a sixth-place finish in the 184-pound amateur division.

Mason Buss scored seven points for SMSU finishing 4-2 on the day in the 174-pound amateur division. Buss started the day with a pair of wins by fall before suffering a loss via 8-1 decision in the third round of the championship bracket. He would go on to win two more matches in the consolation bracket by decision before losing by tech fall to end the day.

Noah Jensen finished 3-2 and won a pair of matches via regular decision and one by fall.
Tate Condezo also ended the day 3-2 grabbing a pair of wins by fall, and
Chase Murphy posted a 3-2 mark.

AJ Polansky and
Preston Xayachak also finished with a 3-2 record on the day.
• The Mustangs accumulated 47 wins total including 11 wins via fall, five by tech fall, and four wins via major decision.

• The Marauders earned a 56-0 win in an exhibition dual versus Bismarck State College and have wrestled at three open tournaments.
• UMary concluded the 2023-24 season with a fourth-place finish in the NSIC after posting an 11-5 overall record and 6-3 mark in league play.
• UMary is ranked No. 16 in both the NWCA and Open Mat polls and No. 18 in the Inter Mat rankings. The Marauders have eight wrestlers ranked in the Open Mat ranks and four in the NWCA ranks.
