Mustangs square off with St. Cloud State and Bemidji State in final regular season road games

THE LOOK AHEAD
• The Southwest Minnesota State University women's basketball team (15-9, 13-5 NSIC), currently in a three-way tie for second in the NSIC standings, rematches St. Cloud State (15-7, 12-6 NSIC) and Bemidji State (6-16, 3-15 NSIC) in its final two road games of the regular season.
• The Mustangs return to the R/A Facility for their final two regular season games against Minot State and MSU Moorhead on Feb. 23-24.

ST. CLOUD STATE SERIES HISTORY
• SMSU and SCSU will meet for the 71st time with the Huskies leading 42-18 in a series that began in 1969-70.
• SMSU defeated SCSU earlier this season at home 79-55, beating the Huskies for the first time at home since Jan. 15, 2010.
• The Mustangs are 7-20 all-time in games played in St. Cloud and aim to capture their first win there since the 2009-10 season.
• SMSU head coach Tom Webb is 2-6 all-time versus SCSU.

BEMIDJI STATE SERIES HISTORY
• SMSU and BSU will meet for the 81st time with the Mustangs leading 45-35 in a series that began in 1977-78.
• SMSU defeated BSU earlier season in Marshall 86-72 and has beat BSU in two of the last three meetings.
• The Mustangs are 17-21 all-time in games played in Bemidji and last suffered a loss to Bemidji State in the BSU Gymnasium on Jan. 14, 2017.
• SMSU head coach Tom Webb is 5-2 all-time versus BSU.

SMSU HEAD COACH TOM WEBB
Tom Webb is in his eighth season as head coach at SMSU with a 92-111 record, including 70-90 in NSIC play.
• Webb is 183-234 overall in his 16th season as head coach at the Division II level after compiling a record of 91-123 in eight seasons (2008-16) as head coach at Cameron University (Okla.).
• In 2022-23, SMSU advanced to the NSIC semifinals for the fourth time in program history and first time since 2003.
• The team finished with 19 victories a season ago, tying for fifth most in program history, and highest total since 2004-05.
• SMSU also recorded a top three finish in the NSIC South last season, best in the division era, while earning a top four finish in the NSIC regular season standings for the first time since 2004-05.

MUSTANG TIP-OFF TIDBITS
• In conference games only, SMSU leads the NSIC in 3-point field-goal pct. (34.9), and free throw pct. (78.0), and is currently second in field-goal pct. (43.6) and scoring offense (74.4) and is sixth in scoring margin (6.9).
• SMSU fell 72-57 to the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs to split the season series 1-1 on Friday in NSIC women's basketball inside the Romano Gymnasium.
Bri Stoltzman and Hannah Parsley led the Mustangs with 16 and 10 points, respectively. Stoltzman made a team-high two 3-pointers, while Parsley drained a squad-best five shots at the free-throw line.
• The Mustangs closed the night shooting 28 percent (17 of 60) from the field, including 6 of 24 from deep. The Bulldogs, led by Madelyn Granica with 12 points, shot 46 percent (25 of 54) from the field with seven 3-pointers.
• SMSU came back from down 17 points to secure the season sweep over Concordia-St. Paul 76-75 in NSIC women's basketball on Saturday afternoon inside the Gangelhoff Center.
• The Mustangs were led by Bri Stoltzman with 27 points, a team-high nine rebounds, and five assists. Sam Wall knocked down a squad-best four 3-pointers to secure 18 points in the win. Madison Gehloff and Hannah Parsley chipped in 12 points apiece, while Gehloff went a perfect 6 of 6 from the free throw line and pulled down five rebounds.
• SMSU closed the game shooting 38 percent (22 of 58), including 8 of 22 from beyond the arc. The Golden Bears concluded the contest with 53 percent shooting with four makes from deep.
• SMSU has shot 50 percent or higher seven times this season.
• SMSU dished out a season-high 22 assists in victories over Martin Luther and Minot State.
Sam Wall became the 24th player in team history to reach 1,000 career points on Jan. 12 and ranks second in team history with 226 3-pointers.
• Stoltzman ranks third in team history in field goal pct. (51.0, 341 of 668).
• In NSIC games only, Stoltzman ranks second in the league in scoring (18.1), sixth in field goal pct. (46.9) and assists (3.3), and 11th in free throw pct. (74.2) and rebounding (6.4).
•  Wall leads the NSIC in 3-point field goals per game (2.7) and 3-point field goal pct. (37.7) and is 13th amongst active players across Division II in career 3-pointers made.
 
MUSTANGS BY THE NUMBERS
• For the season, SMSU has three players averaging double figures in scoring, and five averaging over nine points per game. Junior Bri Stoltzman leads the way at 18.3 ppg while leading the team in both rebounding at 6.6 per game and assists with 80.
• Senior Sam Wall is averaging 12.9 ppg and shooting 86 percent from the foul line. She leads the team with 63 3-pointers.
• Senior Madison Gehloff is scoring 10.3 ppg and is second on the team with 59 free throws made.
• Junior Peyton Blandin ranks second on the team with 42 3-pointers and is averaging 8.4 ppg with senior Hannah Parsley averaging 9.8 ppg, while snatching a team-second 37 steals.
• SMSU is shooting 43 percent from the field, 36 percent from 3-point range, 77 percent from the free throw line and is plus-2.0 in rebound margin. The Mustangs are averaging 75 points per game, while opponents are averaging 68 ppg.
 
SMSU IN THE NCAA STATS  
• In the latest Division II national statistics (Feb. 11), SMSU ranks fifth in 3-pointers per game (9.3), sixth in 3-point field goal attempts (26.3), 24th in scoring offense (75.0), 20th in free throw pct. (77.2) and 20th in turnovers per game (13.5).
Bri Stoltzman ranks 17th in field goals made (155), 27th in scoring (18.3) and 46th in free throws made (95).
Sam Wall ranks 14th in 3-point field goals made (63) and 19th in 3-point field goal attempts (169).

STONE COLD STOLTZMAN
Bri Stoltzman recorded a career-high 36 points on 13 of 23 shooting in a loss to Northwest Missouri State on Nov. 10. She recorded her second 30-point game of her career with 31 points on 9 of 18 shooting in the win over No. 19 Minnesota Duluth on Dec. 9.
• Stoltzman is leading the team in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals and free throws made.
 
KEEP THE WALL ROLLING
Sam Wall set the program record for 3-pointers made in a single-season last season with 77.
• Wall ranks second all-time in 3-pointers made in program history with 226 in 122 games. She is 26 away from moving into first all-time and passing Jenna Borchers (2018-23).
• She also ranks fifth in free throw percentage at .822 (152 of 185) and 3-point field goal percentage at .383 (226 of 590).
 
PEYTON BLANDIN NOTES
• Has started every game and is averaging 8.4 ppg, 3.3 rpg, and is second on the team in 3-pointers with 42.
• Scored a career-high 17 points vs. Northwest Missouri State (11/10/23).
 
KENNADI BUCHHOLZ NOTES
• Has played in 17 games and is averaging 2.6 ppg and 1.1 rpg.
• Scored season-high eight points at Minnesota Crookston (1/20/24).
• Season-high nine rebounds vs. Martin Luther (1/2/24).
• Recorded her first double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 13 rebounds last season vs. Crown College (11/15/22).
 
BRYNN BUSSE NOTES
• Has played in 21 games adding 30 points, 21 rebounds, and 16 assists.
• Scored seven points on three field goals vs. Martin Luther (1/2/24).
• Dished season-high five assists vs. Winona State (2/3/24).
 
ZOIE CENTERS NOTES
• Has played in 15 games and scored a season-high three points vs. Sioux Falls (12/14/23).
• Tallied seven points, nine rebounds, and five assists in 18 games last season.

• SMSU is 9-4 at home this season after finishing 11-4 at home in 2022-23 and 10-3 in 2021-22.

SMSU ALL-TIME IN THE NSIC
• The 2023-24 campaign marks the 45th season SMSU has competed in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
• SMSU has an all-time record of 292-424 in conference games and have won four regular season championships (1979-80, 1980-81, 2000-01, 2001-02) and one NSIC Tournament championship (2002).
 
MUSTANG HISTORY
• Southwest Minnesota State is in its 55th season of women's basketball in 2023-24.
• SMSU has played 1,381 games compiling an all-time record of 666-715.
• SMSU has recorded 28 winning seasons, including the last three seasons. The 2019-20 squad that finished 16-12 was the program's first winning season since 2009-10.

• Jada Eggebrecht leads the team in scoring (12.0) and 3-pointers made (32).
• Ashley Sawicki is second on the team scoring 10.6 ppg and leads the squad in rebounding (7.1) and blocks (29).
• Morgan Draheim is scoring 8.1 ppg and leads the team in steals (39).
• SCSU is shooting 40 percent from the field, 34 percent from 3-point range, 70 percent from the free throw line and is plus-1.4 in rebound margin. The Huskies are averaging 64 points per game, while opponents are averaging 58 ppg.
 
BEMIDJI STATE NOTES 
• 2023-24 Record: 6-16 overall, 3-15 NSIC
• Head Coach: Chelsea Stoltenberg, 9th season, 71-156
• BSU last played on Feb. 8 claiming an 87-70 road victory over Minnesota Crookston and will play Sioux Falls on Feb. 16 before hosting SMSU later this week.
• Alyssa Hill leads the team in scoring at 13.1 ppg and is second in rebounding at 4.8 rpg.
• Sam Pogatchnik is scoring 8.3 ppg and leads the team in assists with 50.
• Amme Sheforgen is scoring 7.6 ppg and leads the squad in rebounding (5.5) and blocks (19).
• BSU is shooting 39 percent from the field, 28 percent from 3-point range, 67 percent from the free throw line and is minus-5.1 in rebound margin. The Beavers are averaging 58 points per game, while opponents are averaging 65 ppg.
