Wenzel earns NSIC baseball weekly award

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference announced on Monday that Southwest Minnesota State University baseball player Keenan Wenzel has been named the NSIC Offensive Player of the Week.
 
Wenzel, a senior second baseball from Rosemount, Minn., batted .583 (7-for-12) with one double, two triples, one home run and 10 RBIs in helping SMSU open its spring trip with a perfect 3-0 record. He racked up 15 total bases and a 1.250 slugging pct., while scoring four runs. Wenzel also had four putouts, three assists and zero errors at second base.
 
In SMSU's doubleheader sweep over Malone (Ohio) on Saturday, he went 3 for 4 in both games against Malone, combining for nine RBIs and four runs scored. In game one, he was 3 for 4 with four RBIs and a home run, while in game two he was 3 for 4 with five RBIs, with a double, two triples and three runs scored. In Sunday's win over Adams State (Colo.), he was 1 for 4 with an RBI.
 
Wenzel, a 2018 graduate of Rosemount High School, has a .382 batting average and .643 slugging percentage in 10 games this season. This is the second time in his career he has earned the NSIC weekly award.
