MARSHALL, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State University women's soccer team fell short in its home opener against Washburn University by a score of 2-0.
SMSU drops to 0-3 overall while WU grabs their first win to improve their record to 1-2.
The Ichabods' defense prevented any offensive chances from the Mustangs until the 80th minute when the Mustangs would get their first shot on goal.
WU's first goal happened from a perfectly placed through ball to their forward, Riley Wells who found the back of the net. The Ichabods would go into halftime with a 1-0 lead over SMSU.
The Ichabods found the back of the net again in the second half to extend their lead to 2-0.
Sydney Johnson tallied a pair of shots with one being on net.
Rachel Hicks recorded 90 minutes in net for SMSU, faced seven shots on goal and tallied four saves while allowing two goals.
The Mustangs head to Sioux Falls, S.D. on Sunday to finish their non-conference slate, with a match up against Fort Hays State (Kan.) at 12 p.m.
