BEMIDJI, Minn. - Audrey Swanson recorded a career-high 24 points on 10 of 12 shooting with four rebounds and two steals to pace the Southwest Minnesota State University women's basketball team to a 77-51 victory over Bemidji State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action on Friday night inside the BSU Gymnasium.
SMSU (17-2, 11-2 NSIC) finished the night shooting 31 of 67 (46percent) from the field including 40 percent (8 of 20) from downtown.
BSU, which drops to 4-13 on the year and 2-11 in conference play, closed the game shooting 39 percent (20 of 51) from the field including shooting 6 of 16 (38 percent) from beyond the arc.
Bri Stoltzman recorded her third double-double of the season with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and five steals.
Peyton Blandin and
Kenzie Jones also finished with 12 points apiece.
The game started with both teams trading off the first 18 points evenly. The Mustangs would use a 5-0 run to end the first quarter with a three-point lead.
SMSU would open the second quarter with a 12-6 run to build its lead to 26-17 with 6:46 left in the half. The Beavers ended the half on a 12-8 run, cutting the lead to five points at the intermission.
The Mustangs would sink a pair of layups and a jumper to go on a 6-0 run to extend their lead to 10 points. Both teams traded off the next 10 baskets, but SMSU would continue to maintain its 10-point lead with 5:11 remaining in the third quarter. To close out the third quarter, SMSU would build its lead to 15 points going into the final quarter.
BSU began the fourth quarter with a pair of jumpers in an attempt to cut the Mustangs' lead. SMSU would respond by holding the Beavers scoreless for nearly three minutes going on an 11-0 run to extend its lead to 68-44. The Mustangs sank three 3-pointers in the final two minutes en route to a 77-51 victory over the Beavers.
SMSU will continue action tomorrow facing off with St. Cloud State, with tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.
