MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University wheelchair basketball team returns to action this weekend with four big games at the University of Missouri Tournament this Friday and Saturday.
SMSU (6-1) last played on Nov. 22-23 winning three of four games at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Tournament.
This weekend the Mustangs will face Auburn University on Friday at 4 p.m. before taking on the University of Missouri at 6 p.m. SMSU closes play on Saturday battling the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at 9 a.m., before wrapping up play at 11 a.m. with a rematch versus Missouri.
SMSU last played Auburn a season ago at the national tournament in Marshall, losing 63-50. SMSU has lost its last three meetings with Auburn dating back to the 2020-21 season. SMSU defeated Missouri four times last year, including 61-44 in Columbia.
SMSU and UWW played five times last season with Warhawks winning four times, including 81-59 at the national tournament.
Emmanuel Fuentes Cervantes is averaging a team-high 25 points per game, while shooting 49 percent from the field with a team-high 22 3-pointers.
Fermin Wingerter is averaging 17.3 ppg in four games played, while
Joshua Brown ranks second on the team with 53 field goals and is scoring 16 ppg.
