THIS WEEK
• The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team (3-8, 0-5 NSIC) splits home and away duals this week against (RV) Minnesota State (6-2, 3-1 NSIC) and (RV) Northern State (4-1, 3-1 NSIC). 
• The Mustangs match up with the Mavericks for "Rave Night" at home on Friday, with the dual scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
• SMSU travels to wrestle the Wolves on Sunday starting at 3 p.m.

SMSU IN THE NATIONAL RANKS
• SMSU has one individual ranked in the most recent (Jan. 29) Open Mat national ranks, with Sean Howk coming in at No. 20 this week.
• Howk is ranked for the third time this season.

SERIES HISTORY
• Friday will be the 44th meeting between SMSU and MSU, with the Mavericks holding a 33-10 advantage in the all-time series, which began in 1980.
• The Mustangs have been limited to two wins in the last 10 meetings. 
• SMSU fell 30-15 to MSU on the road last season.
• SMSU is 6-13 all-time at home versus MSU.
• Sunday will be the 47th meeting between SMSU and NSU, with the Mustangs leading 29-14-3 in the all-time series which began in 1979.
• The teams have evenly split the last 10 meetings, but NSU has won four of the last five.
• SMSU is 17-7 all-time on the road versus NSU.

LAST WEEK
• SMSU suffered a setback to the MSU Moorhead Dragons in a dual by a final score of 30-10.
• Jake Messner was one of three Mustangs to earn a win last Thursday, picking up a 7-3 regular decision win over MSUM's Cody Wienen.
• Sean Howk would follow up Messner with a decision win of his own, claiming a 7-2 victory over Jacob Reinardy.
• Adam Sylvester, moving up to the 197-pound weight class, earned a dominant 18-5 major decision win over William Price.

MINNESOTA STATE NOTES
• MSU enters the week receiving votes in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Top 25 Poll (Jan. 20) with a record of 6-2 overall and 3-1 in NSIC duals.
• The Mavericks last wrestled on Jan. 16 suffering a 35-3 loss to No. 1 St. Cloud State at home.
• The Mavericks have three wrestlers listed in the NWCA rankings and five in the Open Mat rankings. MSU is also ranked No. 17 in the Open Mat (Jan. 29) team dual rankings.
• At 157 pounds, Caleb Meunier is ranked No. 14 in the Open Mat.
• In both rankings (NWCA/OM), Walker Bents is No. 14/16 in the 149-pound weight class and at 165 pounds, Kole Marko ranks No. 15/16. Drake Hayward is No. 5/6 at 174 pounds.

NORTHERN STATE NOTES
• NSU also enters the week receiving votes in the most recent NWCA poll (Jan. 20) with a record of 4-1 overall and 3-1 in NSIC duals.
• The Wolves last wrestled on Jan. 25 suffering a 21-16 loss to No. 2 Parkside on the road.
• The Wolves have two wrestlers listed in the NWCA rankings and three in the Open Mat rankings. NSU is also ranked No. 11 in the Open Mat (Jan. 29) team dual rankings.
• In both rankings, Brayden Mogle is No. 12/16 in the 141-pound weight class while in the 149-pound class, Wyatt Turnquist ranks No. 3/4. In the Open Mat, Damen Pape is listed No. 16 at 184 pounds.
