MARSHALL, Minn. – In its second dual of the weekend, the Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team fell to top-ranked St. Cloud State by a final score of 49-0 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
SMSU is now 2-3 in duals and 0-3 in NSIC duals. SCSU moves to 3-0 on the duals and 3-0 in NSIC competition.
The dual began with the 125-pound match between
Carlo Arreola and No. 15 Conor Knopick.
Knopick would secure a takedown in the first period to lead 3-0 after the first three minutes until scoring another pair of takedowns in the second period to lead 9-0 and never looked back in winning the match via 19-1 tech fall.
At 133 pounds,
AJ Polansky would battle with seventh-ranked Sam Spencer. Spencer would tally 11 points in the first period and cruise to an early third-period tech fall to give SCSU a 10-0 lead.
141 pounds saw
Chase Murphy fall to No. 6 Alyeus Craig by tech fall as well, while 149 pounds saw
Jake Messner battle top-ranked Colby Njos scoring three takedowns but eventually falling by a 14-3 major decision.
SCSU would build on its lead, winning 157 by tech fall to hold a 25-0 margin heading into the five-minute intermission.
After the intermission the Huskies would pick up wins at 165 by tech fall, 174 by major decision, and secure a pin at 184 pounds to lead 39-0 with two matches to wrestle.
197 pounds featured
Kody Marschner taking on No. 4 Dominic Murphy. Marschner battled to trail by just two points after the first period until Murphy grabbed back-to-back takedowns to push the gap to eight points after five minutes.
Murphy held control throughout the remainder of the match to claim yet another tech fall win for the Huskies and push the match score to 44-0.

Evan Thompson fall to second-ranked La'Ron Parks via major decision.
The Mustangs are back in action next Thursday, Jan. 9, hosting North Iowa Area Community College for a dual beginning at 7 p.m.
