MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team was defeated Friday Night at the hands of the Minot State Beavers by a score of 4-0.
Minot State outshot the Mustangs 21-13, with 10 on target for the Beavers, and two on target for SMSU. Minot State also slightly out-possessed SMSU, earning 51% possession in the match.
Jada Backes led the team in shots with four, while
Brooke Wetterstrom and
Karla Paredes-Nino were the two Mustangs with shots on target.
Minot State opened the scoring in the 38
th minute with Sabrina Amezcua scoring her sixth goal of the season, and ended the first half up 1-0.
The Beavers doubled their lead in the 60
th minute after a header from Leilany Ponce found the back of the Mustangs' net. The goal was assisted by Iliana Rivera.
Minot State's Anna Miotto's 69
th minute penalty kick missed off the crossbar, but just nine minutes later, Miotto rocketed a shot in the top corner to give the Beavers a 3-0 lead. The goal was assisted by Sabrina Amezcua.
Sabrina Amezcua had her second goal of the night in the 81
st minute, assisted by Reese Kuklinski off a break away for the Beavers.
SMSU goalkeeper
Kennady Krebs made six saves in the match, and Minot State goalkeeper Rebecca Sargent made two saves and was credited with a clean sheet.
