Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Mustang soccer defeated Sunday by UMary Marauders

MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team was defeated Sunday afternoon by the UMary Marauders by a score of 4-0.
 
The Marauders outshot the Mustangs 21-4, with nine shots on goal for UMary, and three for SMSU. Leah Dehne, Laynee Godfrey, and Lenee Chavez each had a shot on goal for the Mustangs.
 
UMary opened the scoring in the fifth minute of the match, with Olivia Gardner scoring her ninth goal of the season with a header, assisted by MaLiah Burke.
 
The match remained 1-0 at halftime favoring UMary, until the 49th minute when Addison Massey scored her first goal of the season, and was assisted by MaLiah Burke for her second assist of the match.
 
Tara Young scored her second of the season in the 53rd minute, and the third of the match for the Marauders, and was assisted by Chloe Brand from a corner kick.
 
Two minutes later, Brand whipped a corner kick into the back of the net for the Marauders fourth goal, and the final goal scored in the match.
 
The Mustangs best chance to score came late in the match when SMSU was awarded a penalty kick for a foul inside the box, however Lenee Chavez's penalty was saved by UMary goalkeeper Kadyn Dilger.
 
Mustangs goalkeeper Kennady Krebs made five saves in the match, and UMary goalkeeper Kadyn Dilger made three saves, being credited with a clean sheet.
 
SMSU will be on the road next weekend for their final road trip of the 2025 season, facing Winona State on Friday, Oct. 31st, at 5 p.m. The Mustangs will then be in St. Paul, Minn. to face Concordia-St. Paul on Sunday, Nov. 2nd, at 1 p.m. Both matches will be streaming live on the NSIC Network, and more information can be found at smsumustangs.com/sports/womens-soccer.
