The Southwest Minnesota State University women's basketball team (6-6, 4-3 NSIC) starts the 2026 calendar year hosting the University of Sioux Falls Cougars (8-4, 5-2 NSIC) on Saturday afternoon in a rematch from Nov. 25.
The game will be played at 4 p.m. inside the R/A Facility in Marshall

SERIES HISTORY
SMSU will meet USF for the 46th time in school history with the Mustangs holding a 24-21 advantage.
Prior to the meeting on Nov. 25, the Mustangs had won the last five meetings against the Cougars dating back to the 2022-23 season.
USF leads 12-9 in games played in Marshall, but SMSU has won the last three played in Marshall.
Tom Webb holds an 8-10 record against Sioux Falls.

LAST TIME AGAINST THE COUGARS
The Mustangs dropped the Nov. 25 contest against the Cougars 92-80.
Nicole Maenke scored a career-high 28 points, tying the school record with seven 3-pointers in the game.
Audrey Swanson scored 29 points, a career-high, and grabbed 12 rebounds, leading the team.
Allie Haabala added a pair of 3-pointers, nine points total, and dished out four assists.
SMSU shot 37 percent from the floor (31-83), making 12 3-pointers on 40 attempts, while the Cougars shot 54 percent (35-65) with five 3-pointers. The Mustangs held the advantage in rebounds 44-41.
USF was led in scoring by Krista Langager with a career-high 25 points and Anna Vaaler adding 24 points.
The Mustangs opened the game with 32 points in the first 10 minutes, connecting on six 3-pointers, and eventually extended the lead to 11 points with two minutes to play in the first half. For the remainder of the game, the Cougars outscored the Mustangs 53-30, which included a 16-0 run and a 13-4 run favoring USF.
SMSU HEAD COACH TOM WEBB
Tom Webb is in his 10th season as head coach at SMSU with a 130-125 record, including 95-98 in NSIC play.
Webb is 221-248 overall in his 16th season as head coach at the Division II level after compiling a record of 91-123 in eight seasons (2008-16) as head coach at Cameron University (Okla.).
In 2024-25, SMSU advanced to the NSIC championship, and the NCAA Central Region Championship, the first time for Coach Webb at SMSU.
The team finished with 28 victories a season ago, the most in a single season in program history.
SMSU also recorded a second place finish in the NSIC last season posting a 19-3 league mark, the programs most conference wins in a season.

MUSTANG TIP-OFF TIDBITS
In the current NSIC stats (league games only), SMSU is third in 3-pointers made (103), fifth in free throw percentage (78.0), and sixth in rebounding margin (3.8).
Nicole Maenke is second in free throw percentage (89.7), sixth in 3-pointers (30), No. 10 in scoring average (15.8), and No. 14 in field goal percentage (45.3).
Audrey Swanson is sixth in rebound average (7.3), No. 12 in scoring average (15.3), and No. 19 in field goal percentage (40.6).
Kylan Gerads is No. 10 in rebounding average (6.8) and No. 19 in scoring average (13.1).
SMSU has shot 50 percent from the field twice this season (Wayne State, Dec. 6, Concordia-St. Paul, Dec. 13).
SMSU dished out a season-high 19 assists against Wayne State and has had 18 or more assists in three games.

SIOUX FALLS NOTES
2025-26 Record: 8-4 overall, 5-2 NSIC
Head Coach: Travis Traphagen, 18th season (301-187)
Sophomore guard Anna Vaaler currently leads the Cougars in ppg, averaging 22.2 and rpg with 8.4 boards. Against No. 2 ranked Minnesota State on Dec. 20, Vaaler scored 24 points (10/16, 4/7 from 3-point shots) and grabbed 12 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season.
Freshman center Krista Langager has become a go-to option for the Cougars, averaging 15.1 ppg and 6.9 rpg, both second on the team. Langager scored a career-high 25 points against the Mustangs on Nov. 25, and has scored 20+ in four of the last five games.
Sioux Falls is currently third in the NSIC South, with a 5-2 conference record, and fifth overall in the NSIC.
The Cougars finished the 2024-25 season with a 17-14 record, holding a 12-10 record in NSIC play. Sioux Falls was picked to finish third in both the NSIC and in the NSIC South division in the annual NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
