SMSU wrestling heads to Wisconsin for dual against No. 2/3 Parkside

THIS WEEK
• The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team (3-11, 0-8 NSIC) is on the road this week for its final dual of the regular season, taking on No. 2/3 ranked Wisconsin-Parkside (12-3, 6-2 NSIC) inside De Simone Arena in Kenosha, Wis.
• The first bout of the dual is scheduled for 7 p.m.
• Following Friday's dual, SMSU takes two weeks off before returning to the mat in Sioux Falls, S.D., for the NCAA Super Regional on March 1.

SMSU IN THE NATIONAL RANKS
• SMSU has one individual ranked in the most recent (Feb. 12) Open Mat national ranks, with Sean Howk coming in at No. 18 this week.
• Howk is ranked for the fifth time this season.

SERIES HISTORY
• Friday will be the seventh meeting between SMSU and UWP, with the Rangers holding a 6-0 advantage in the all-time series, which began in 2001.
• SMSU suffered an 11-36 loss to UWP at home last season.
• UWP is 3-0 in the all-time series in home matches.

LAST WEEK
• The Mustangs came out on the wrong end of bonus points in a 23-16 loss to the (RV) University of Sioux Falls Cougars inside the PE Gym on Friday night.
Carlo Arreola dominated the 125-pound match against Jaxton Packer en route to a first-period pin to start the dual.
Dylan Louwagie picked up a win at 141 pounds with a 4-2 decision victory over Jordon Oehme.
Sean Howk, ranked No. 20 for four consecutive weeks in the Open Mat rankings, put up a flawless performance for SMSU in the 157-pound match, earning an escape to gain a 1-0 lead with just over a minute left to wrestle, and holding strong in the final minute to add a point of riding time and escape with the win.
Kody Marschner also won his match at 197 pounds, cruising to a confident 19-6 major decision victory over Tim Lacina.

PARKSIDE NOTES
• UWP enters the week ranked No. 2 in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Top 25 Poll (Jan. 20) with a record of 12-3 overall and 6-2 in NSIC duals.
• Parkside is also ranked No. 3 in the Open Mat team dual rankings.
• The Rangers last wrestled on Feb. 7 earning a 41-(-1) win over MSU Moorhead at home.
• UWP has eight wrestlers listed in the NWCA rankings and nine wrestled ranked Open Mat rankings.
