DULUTH, Minn. - Bri Stoltzman and Peyton Blandin each scored more than 20 points, while Audrey Swanson recorded her 10th double-double to help the No. 19/22 Southwest Minnesota State University women's basketball team to an 89-63 victory over Minnesota Duluth in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action on Wednesday night inside the Romano Gymnasium.
SMSU (21-2, 15-2 NSIC) finished the night shooting 32 of 66 (49 percent) from the field including 50 percent (8 of 16) from downtown.
Minnesota Duluth, which drops to 7-15 on the year and 5-12 in conference play, closed the game shooting 49 percent (23 of 47) from the field including shooting 5 of 9 (56 percent) from beyond the arc.
Bri Stoltzman led the SMSU offense with 27 points on 63 percent (12 of 19) shooting with seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Peyton Blandin connected for five 3-pointers to end the game with 23 points, six rebounds, and a team-high three steals. Audrey Swanson recorded 19 points on 50 percent (8 of 16) shooting and 10 rebounds.
Audrey Swanson poured in nine points on 4 of 4 shooting to lead SMSU to a 14-4 lead after five minutes of play. The Bulldogs would bring the score within nine points at the end of the first quarter.
UMD's Johanna Miller opened the second quarter with 10 points to bring the Bulldogs within seven points with 6:36 remaining. The Bulldogs would come out of the media timeout draining three 3-pointers to take the lead 33-32. The Mustangs would retake the lead 35-33 going into halftime.
SMSU jumped to a 10-point lead in the opening minutes of the third quarter, thanks to a pair of Peyton Blandin 3-pointers. Both teams evenly traded off the next 22 baskets with SMSU continuing to lead 58-47 with 2:15 left in the quarter. The Bulldogs would go into the final quarter with an 18-point deficit.
The Mustangs would keep their foot on the gas building to a 26-point lead, en route to their 13th straight victory.
SMSU will return to action hosting Winona State for Tropical Night on Saturday, Feb. 8, with tip-off set for 7 p.m.
