CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The Southwest Minnesota State wheelchair basketball team, the No. 5 seed, saw its hopes for a national championship fade on Friday afternoon, suffering an 81-51 loss to No. 1 seed the University of Arizona in the national semifinals of the National Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball Tournament inside the State Farm Center on the campus of the University of Illinois.
SMSU will now play for third-place on Saturday with a 10 a.m. battle with the University of Alabama.
Arizona will take on No. 2 seed UT Arlington in the national championship game starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday. UTA defeated Alabama, 65-61, in the other semifinal game on Friday.
