MARSHALL, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State University wheelchair basketball team concluded day one of the SMSU tournament by dropping two games on Friday inside the PE gym.
The Mustangs are now 9-4 on the season, after suffering a 75-63 loss to Illinois before falling in overtime to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 79-70.
In the opening game loss to Illinois,
Joshua Brown led the Mustangs with 28 points, while
Emmanuel Fuentes Cervantes contributed by tallying 17 points, and
Fermin Wingerter chipped in 14 points.
In their second game, SMSU faced off with the Wisconsin-Whitewater. SMSU dominated in the second game, but Wisconsin-Whitewater battled back to force the game into overtime.
Emmanuel Fuentes Cervantes poured in a team-high 45 points, while teammate
Fermin Wingerter added 13 points.
The Mustangs are back inside the PE Gym on Saturday with three games, the first game starts at 9 a.m. against Illinois, the next game is against Wisconsin-Whitewater at 12:30 p.m., the last game is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. against the Timberwolves.
