MARSHALL, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State University wheelchair basketball team concluded the SMSU tournament by earning two wins on Saturday inside the PE gym.
The Mustangs are now 11-5 on the season, after earning a 64-40 victory over Illinois before battling UWW to a score of 76-65 to grab their second win of the day. SMSU would fall to Minnesota Rolling Timberwolves by a final score of 60-43.
In the win over Illinois,
Emmanuel Fuentes Cervantes led the Mustangs with 27 points and 20 rebounds, while
Fermin Wingerter poured in 23 points with seven rebounds.
In their second game, SMSU faced off with the Wisconsin-Whitewater. SMSU trailed UWW for the majority of the game but would battle back to earn a 76-65 victory.
Emmanuel Fuentes Cervantes tallied 28 points with 14 rebounds, while teammate
Fermin Wingerter added 26 points.
Joshua Brown contributed 16 points and 11 rebounds.
In the final game of the day, SMSU played the Minnesota Rolling Timberwolves, suffering a 60-43 loss to close out the day.
Landon Wherry led the Mustang offense with 26 points.
The Mustangs return to action on March 14-15, at the University of Arizona Tournament.
