BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Southwest Minnesota State University senior left-handed pitcher
Ryan Chmielewski has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week for his outstanding performance versus Minnesota Crookston on Saturday afternoon at Legion Field in Marshall.
Chmielewski, a native of Foley, Minn., fired 6 1/3 inning shutout innings, allowing just three hits with five strikeouts and no walks to earn the victory in SMSU's seven-inning, 1-0 win. He faced the minimum 12 batters in the first four innings and did not allow a runner to reach second base during his time on the mound.
It's the second straight start and fourth time this season he has not allowed a run, while pitching at least six innings. For the season, Chmielewski is 4-1 in seven starts with a 2.86 ERA in 44 innings with 44 strikeouts.
In his career, Chmielewski has pitched in 39 games (all starts) and ranks third in program history in games started, fourth in innings pitched (219), fourth in strikeouts (210) and ninth in strikeouts per nine innings (8.6).
Chmielewski is a 2021 graduate of Foley High School.
SMSU, 20-12 overall, 15-10 NSIC, returns to action on Tuesday with a doubleheader at Northern State.
