Five Mustangs named to CSC Academic All-District team

MARSHALL, Minn. – Five members of the Southwest Minnesota State University softball program earned spots on the 2025 College Sport Communicators Academic All-District team announced on Tuesday.
 
Seniors Abby Boxrud, Morgyn Otte and Abby Russell, along with junior Riley Kramolisch and sophomore Emma Humpal earned the honor.
 
The Academic All-District® softball teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
 
Boxrud, an outfielder from Red Wing, Minn., is a two-time Academic All-NSIC honoree and earns CSC Academic All-District honors for the first time. She batted .307 with three doubles, 13 RBIs and scored a team-high 39 runs.
 
Otte, a pitcher from Randolph, Minn., is a three-time Academic All-NSIC and three-time CSC Academic All-District honoree. She pitched in 26 games with 25 starts and finished 10-11. She recorded 70 strikeouts and a 3.47 ERA in 109 innings with one complete game.
 
Russell, a shortstop from Omaha, Neb., is a three-time Academic All-NSIC honoree and has earned CSC Academic All-District honors for the third straight season. She batted .333 while collecting six doubles, two triples, one home run, 28 RBIs and seven stolen bases. She closed her career batting .325 in 207 games, while ranking tied for fourth in team history with 214 hits and tied for fifth with 39 doubles. She set the program career record for assists with 462.
 
Kramolisch, an outfielder from Omaha, Neb., led the team this season with a .347 batting average, while collecting a team-high 67 hits. She is a two-time Academic All-NSIC honoree and earns CSC Academic All-District honors for the second straight season.
 
Humpal, an infielder from Omaha, Neb., closed the season batting .303 with five doubles, while leading the team with 29 RBIs. 

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2024-25 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs.
 
To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District honors, nominees must have a 3.50 cumulative GPA, complete one full calendar year at their current institution and be at least a sophomore both academically and athletically. Eligible nominees must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games played or must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's games. For pitchers, a student-athlete must have made at least 17 appearances or pitched 35 innings.
 
SMSU closed the season 29-26 overall, including 11-17 in NSIC play. The 29 victories are the highest total for the program since the 2011 season.
