MARSHALL, Minn. – Cameron Jensen and
Carter Petron from the Southwest Minnesota State University baseball program were named to the 2025 College Sport Communicators Academic All-District® team announced on Tuesday.
It's the second straight season Petron has been named to the Academic All-District® team, while it's the first time for Jensen.
The Academic All-District® baseball teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Jensen, a pitcher from Tea, S.D., appeared in 20 games—all in relief—recording five saves and finishing with a 3-2 record. He recorded a 3.63 ERA in 39 2/3 innings with 35 strikeouts. Jensen finished his four-year career at SMSU ranking second all-time in strikeouts per nine innings (9.91), third in saves (8) and sixth in appearances (53).
Petron, a pitcher from Rice, Minn., started 10 games this season and finished 4-5 registering 42 strikeouts in 46 innings, while recording a 6.46 ERA. A two-time Academic All-NSIC honoree, Petron closed his three-year Mustang career appearing in 30 games with 29 starts and finishing with a 13-9 record with three complete games. He struck out 132 batters in 144 1/3 innings.
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2024-25 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs.
To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District honors, nominees must have a 3.50 cumulative GPA, complete one full calendar year at their current institution and be at least a sophomore both academically and athletically. Student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games played or must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's games. For pitchers, a student-athlete must have made at least 17 appearances or pitched 35 innings.
