MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team (1-1-0) fell to the Upper Iowa Peacocks (1-1-1) this afternoon by a score of 1-0.
Haylee Allen was the lone goal scorer, scoring in the 86
th minute, and was assisted by Haylie Hutchinson.
The Mustangs were shut out, despite having 55% possession and 14 shots, with four being on target.
In the first half, the Mustangs were the more aggressive team, outshooting the Peacocks 8-1 and having 60% possession.
Mercy Godfrey had the closest chance for the Mustangs, after hitting the post from a long distance early in the second half.
Tempers flared in the 54
th minute when SMSU's
Sophia Wilson and Upper Iowa's Meghan Zwicker were both shown red cards for violent behavior.
The Peacocks were from then on the aggressor, and eventually broke through with Allen's goal.
The Mustangs travel south to Hays, Kan. where they will face the Fort Hays State Tigers on Sunday, Sept. 14
