MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State soccer team suffered a tough 3-2 loss to Minnesota State Moorhead on Friday afternoon with the Dragons scoring a pair of second half goals to rally for the victory at The Schwan Regional Event Center.
 
SMSU drops to 1-5 overall, 0-3 NSIC, while MSUM improves to 2-3-1 overall, 1-2 NSIC.
 
MSUM opened the scoring in the eighth minute, but SMSU answered with a pair of late first half goals to take the lead. 
Jada Backes started the rally with a goal off a pass from 
Karla Paredes-Nino in the 42
nd minute. Less than two minutes later, 
Malorie Maderak buried a goal off an assist from 
Illjana Arbaugh to give the Mustangs a 2-1 lead into halftime.
 
SMSU starting goalkeeper 
Kennady Krebs made one save in the first half before being replaced by 
Stella Litzen in the second half.
 
MSUM started the comeback with a goal in the 51
st minute to tie the game at 2-2, before scoring the game-winner in the 74
th minute.
 
MSUM closed the game recording 10 shots with six on goal, while SMSU finished with seven shots with three on goal.
 
SMSU resumes home action on Sunday taking on Minnesota Crookston at 1 p.m.
