The Southwest Minnesota State University women's basketball team (8-7, 6-4 NSIC) are back in Marshall this weekend, playing host to two NSIC North squads in part of a four-game home stand for the Mustangs.
SMSU faces the Minot State Beavers (7-10, 4-6) on Friday, Jan. 16, at 7:30 p.m.
SMSU then matchup with the UMary Marauders (14-5, 7-3 NSIC) the following Saturday at 7 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY
SMSU will meet Minot State for the 16th time in school history with the Mustangs holding a 10-5 advantage.
The Mustangs have won seven in a row against the Beavers dating back to 2019-20, and have won four of the last five matchups played in the R/A Facility.
Tom Webb holds an 8-2 record against MSU as coach of the Mustangs.
The Mustangs will face UMary for the 24th time with the Marauders holding a 14-9 advantage.
The series is split 3-3 in the last six meetings, however SMSU has won four of the last five matchups when played in the R/A Facility.

MUSTANGS SPLIT ROAD TRIP MATCHUPS
SMSU defeated the Bemidji State Beavers (7-7, 4-6 NSIC) last Friday 75-69. Audrey Swanson led the Mustangs with 23 points on 9-18 shooting from the floor, and 4-6 from beyond the arc. Nicole Maenke added 20 points of her own, going a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line.
The Mustangs were defeated Saturday by Minnesota Duluth (12-2, 10-0 NSIC) in a heart-breaker, 69-65. Kylan Gerads led the way with 20 points, shooting 7-10 from the field and 2-2 from downtown. Nicole Maenke dropped 13 points and once again went perfect from the charity stripe (6-6). Maddie Thorfinnson tied her career high in points, scoring 12, and was 3-6 from 3-point range.
SMSU HEAD COACH TOM WEBB
Tom Webb is in his 10th season as head coach at SMSU with a 132-126 record, including 97-99 in NSIC play.Â
Webb is 223-249 overall in his 16th season as head coach at the Division II level after compiling a record of 91-123 in eight seasons (2008-16) as head coach at Cameron University (Okla.).Â
In 2024-25, SMSU advanced to the NSIC championship, and the NCAA Central Region Championship, the first time for Coach Webb at SMSU.
The team finished with 28 victories a season ago, the most in a single season in program history.
SMSU also recorded a second-place finish in the NSIC last season posting a 19-3 league mark, the programs most conference wins in a season.

In the current NSIC stats (league games only), SMSU is first in free throw percentage (83.4), second in 3-point percentage (36.9) third in 3-pointers made (86), fifth in rebounding margin (4.2), and fifth in team field goal percentage (44.7).
Nicole Maenke is first in free throw percentage (95.5), fourth in 3-pointers per game (2.5), fifth in 3-point percentage (39.1), No. 11 in scoring (16.9) and No. 12 in field goal percentage (46.4).
Audrey Swanson is sixth in rebound average (7.7), ninth in 3-pointers per game (2.0), No. 10 in 3-point percentage (34.0) No. 12 in scoring average (16.8), and No. 13 in assists per game (3.0).
Natalie Nielsen is second in free throw percentage (93.5) and seventh in rebounding (7.6).
SMSU has shot 50 percent from the field twice this season (Wayne State, Dec. 6, Concordia-St. Paul, Dec. 13).
SMSU dished out a season-high 19 assists against Wayne State and has had 18 or more assists in three games.

2025-26 Record: 7-10 overall, 4-6 NSIC
Head Coach: Ryan Clark, 2nd season (17-30)
Sophomore guard Taryn Hamling leads the Beavers averaging 16.2 ppg, shooting 38 percent from 3-point range, and is fifth in the NSIC averaging 2.4 steals in the Beavers 10 conference games. Hamling transferred to MSU from North Dakota State in the offseason, and has five games of 20+ points.
Junior guard Maya Aguilar, a Preseason 'Player to Watch' is second on the team in scoring, averaging 11.3 ppg, leading the Beavers in rebounds averaging 6.3 boards per game.
Minot State are currently 11th in the overall NSIC standings with a 4-6 conference record.
The Beavers finished the 2024-25 season with a 10-20 record, holding a 9-13 record in NSIC play. MSU was picked to finish ninth in the annual NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll, and fourth in the NSIC North.

Sophomore center Allison Undlin is second on the team in points, averaging 13.4 ppg, and leading the team in rebounds grabbing 7.9 rpg. Undlin scored 20 points in back to back games against Minnesota Crookston (12/11) and Minnesota State Moorhead (12/13).
UMary is currently fourth in the NSIC standings with a 7-3 conference record.
