MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University wheelchair basketball team will have its first home games of the season this Friday and Saturday hosting a two-day, four-team tournament inside the PE Gym.
A total of eight games will be played on both Friday and Saturday inside the PE Gym.
SMSU, 8-8 on the season, will play four games with two each day.
SMSU opens play on Friday at 12 p.m. versus the University of Arizona. This will be the fourth meeting this season with Arizona winning all three match-ups this season, including 63-46 on Feb. 21 at the University of Alabama Tournament. At 3:30 p.m. on Friday, SMSU will take on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for the third time this season with both teams winning one game.
On Saturday, SMSU opens with a 10:45 a.m. game versus the University of Missouri before closing the tournament with a 2:15 p.m. rematch versus Arizona. SMSU is 3-0 versus Missouri this season.
Emmanuel Fuentes Cervantes is averaging a team-high 24.2 points per game, while shooting 43 percent from the field with a team-high 36 3-pointers. Josh Brown ranks second on the team with scoring 17.1 ppg, while
Fermin Wingerter is averaging 13.4 ppg in 12 games.
Following this weekend, SMSU will compete at the national tournament hosted by the University of Arizona in Tucson beginning on April 1.
