TUCSON, Ariz. – Southwest Minnesota State cracked out six extra-base hits while
Ryan Bell fired five strong innings recording five strikeouts in earning a 14-1 victory in seven innings over Hamline University on Sunday afternoon at the Kino Sports Complex
SMSU has won six straight, including its last three via run-rule to push its record to 10-5 overall, while Hamline drops to 5-5 on the season. The six-game winning streak is the program's longest since the 2023 season.
Levi Lampert,
Tanner Rezny,
Henry Hammrich and
Nathan Wheeler all collected two hits with Rezny and Lampert each scoring three runs. Hammrich belted a three-run homer, while Lampert had a triple and double.
Bell (2-2) scattered four hits and did not walk a batter in earning his second straight victory.
Lincoln Vasgaard allowed one hit with three strikeouts in two shutout innings.
SMSU scored three runs in the first with
Evan Behn, Wheeler and Hammrich each delivering run-scoring base hits.
The Mustangs pushed across five more in the second with Behn hitting a sac fly before
Tyler Froland drove in a run with a ground out. Hammrich capped the big inning blasting a three-run shot over the right-center field fence for his third long-ball of the season.
SMSU plate four more runs in the third with
Jared Cortez drilling a ground-run double to score Lampert and later scoring on a wild pitch. Wheeler added two more runs with a double down the left field line.
Behn added a sac fly in the fifth while
Cody Dahlager smacked a sac fly in the sixth to add to the final margin.
SMSU will continue play on Monday with a 12 p.m. CDT game versus Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.).
