ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State softball team (24-20, 10-8 NSIC) was defeated in both games of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon by the St. Cloud State Huskies (29-11, 11-3 NSIC), dropping game one 10-2 (6 inn.) and game two 1-0.
GAME ONE
Ramsey Hopp (8-13) pitched 5 1/3 innings for the Mustangs, allowing 10 runs on 13 hits, striking out three batters.
Paris Van Dyke led SMSU with two hits in the game and was one of two players with an RBI and a double, the other being Aliza Acker.
The Huskies kicked off the scoring in the first inning from a three-run home run courtesy of Morgan Honeycutt.
The Mustangs responded in the top half of the third inning with a pair of RBI doubles from Van Dyke and Acker.
SCSU extended their lead to 5-2 in the bottom half of the next inning with RBIs from Bethany Weiss and Kaylee Collins.
The Huskies would keep their foot on the gas pedal for the remainder of the game, scoring another run in the fifth and sixth.
SCSU would end the game in the bottom of the sixth with RBIs from Grace Frechette, Sydney Roe, and a walk-off single from Collins.
Justyce Porter (11-5) pitched all six innings allowing two runs on six hits with four strikeouts. Frechette and Collins led SCSU with three hits, while Honeycutt led in RBIs with three.
GAME TWO
Jordyn Marsh (16-7) pitched six innings allowing one run on six hits with four strikeouts.
Marsh also led the Mustangs in hits with two, while Carley Stych had the other hit in game two.
The Huskies scored the lone run of the game in the fifth inning off a bunt from Hannah Weckmann, who came in to pinch-hit.
Macey Clark (12-5) pitched all seven scoreless innings for SCSU striking out five Mustang batters. Grace Dahmen led the Huskies with two hits offensively.
SMSU is scheduled to play in Sioux Falls, S.D., on Friday, April 17, in a doubleheader against Augustana beginning at 3 p.m.
