SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Behind a five hit, one run performance on the mound from Jordyn Marsh, the Southwest Minnesota State softball squad (25-21, 11-9 NSIC) split a doubleheader against the Augustana Vikings (19-22, 12-8 NSIC) dropping game one 6-0 and winning game two 2-1.
GAME ONE
Ramsey Hopp (8-14) pitched six innings for the Mustangs giving up six runs on 13 hits, striking out two batters.
Riley Kramolisch, Paris Van Dyke, and Ava Rud each had one hit for SMSU in game one. The Mustangs left seven runners on base compared to Augustana's six.
Norah Christiansen began game one with a solo home run to left field for the Vikings in the second inning.
Claire Wynja and Sidney Smart added to the Vikings lead in the third inning with a pair of RBIs.
Desi Cuevas brought two runners home on a double in the fifth inning before Christiansen added the sixth and final run of the game in the following inning.
AU's Teya Speltz (5-5) pitched all seven scoreless innings allowing three hits with one strikeout. Cuevas led the Vikings with three hits, and tied with Christiansen in RBIs with two.
GAME TWO
Jordyn Marsh (17-6) pitched seven innings, allowing one earned run on five hits with two strikeouts.
Kennah Bretschneider led the way for SMSU with two hits in game two, while four other Mustang batters had hits. Grace Anderson had the lone RBI for the Mustangs.
Anderson's RBI came on a single to left field in the second inning, allowing Bretschneider to score.
The Mustangs added a second run in the same inning off a wild pitch.
Sidney Smart provided the only RBI for Augustana with a groundout, which allowed Kierra Lubovich to score.
Helene Krage (8-7) pitched seven innings for AU, allowing two earned runs on six hits, with one strikeout. Five different Viking batters collected hits as Augustana stranded five runners on base.
SMSU will be back at Mustang Field in Marshall on Sunday for a doubleheader against Wayne State beginning at 12 p.m.
