SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Behind a dominant performance by
Jordyn Marsh on the mound, the Southwest Minnesota State softball team (32-25) defeated the Sioux Falls Cougars (28-28) 1-0 in the first round of the NSIC Tournament on Wednesday afternoon. This is the first win in the conference tournament for SMSU since 2022.
Marsh (22-8) pitched all seven shutout innings allowing just one hit, striking out 10 batters on 79 total pitches.
The Mustangs were led offensively by
Riley Kramolisch with two of SMSU's five hits in the game.
Grace Anderson provided the lone run.
Marsh began the outing on the mound striking out seven of the first 10 batters she faced, and had nine strikeouts through five innings.
Anderson's solo home run to left center in the third inning was the lone run in the game.
USF's Maddi Duncan pitched six innings for the Cougars allowing one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts. Charlie Pryor had the lone hit for USF.
The Mustangs will face the No. 1 seeded Winona State Warriors tomorrow afternoon at 12:30 at Bowden Field.
