GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Southwest Minnesota State University baseball team earned the American Baseball Coaches Association's (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award, presented by Sports Attack, the organization announced on Wednesday. The Mustangs were one of 91 NCAA Division II teams to claim the scholastic honor.
It's the fourth straight season SMSU, which closed the 2025-26 academic year with a 3.38 GPA, has earned the award.
SMSU had 13 players earn Academic All-NSIC honors this spring with four, senior
Levi Lampert and sophomores
Jared Cortez,
Jameson Quinn and
Nathan Wheeler, earning College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District accolades.
The ABCA nearly 500 collegiate programs from across the country with the award. Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with this year's award, which highlights programs coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale for the entire 2025-26 academic year.
The Mustangs finished the 2026 season with a 20-28 overall record.
