MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team (0-4-1, 0-2-0 NSIC) dropped a 3-0 decision to Bemidji State (2-1-2, 1-0-1 NSIC) on Sunday afternoon at Mattke Field at the Schwan Regional Event Center.
The Beavers finished the match with a 17-6 advantage in shots and held an 8-3 edge in shots on goal. Abigail Schmidt, Evie Boyle, and Sophia Wilson recorded the shots on target for the Mustangs. SMSU recorded two corner kicks compared to seven for Bemidji State.
The two teams played to a scoreless draw through the opening 45 minutes, with SMSU goalkeeper Madelyn Cory making four saves in the first half.
Bemidji State opened the scoring early in the second half when Megan Ko converted a penalty kick in the 51st minute for her first goal of the season.
Bemidji State added to its lead in the 59th minute as Gracie Waters scored off assists from Maggie Kramer and Ko. Meredith Paar capped the scoring in the 86th minute, scoring off an assist from Myla Blake.
Cory played all 90 minutes in goal for the Mustangs, recording five saves.
SMSU returns to action next weekend on the road, first against Minnesota Crookston on Friday, Sept. 18 at 3 p.m., before facing Minnesota State Moorhead on Sunday at 1 p.m.
