MANKATO, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team (0-2-1) suffered a 5-0 defeat to No. 10 ranked Central Missouri (3-1) on Sunday morning at the Maverick Soccer Complex.
The Jennies controlled possession throughout the match, finishing with a 30-0 advantage in shots with 14 shots on goal. Central Missouri also recorded 14 corner kicks compared to none for SMSU.
Central Missouri jumped out to a quick lead, scoring four times in the opening 22 minutes. Kate Ricker opened the scoring in the 11th minute before Mikayla Ernst added a goal just over two minutes later. Ryann Clark extended the lead to 3-0 in the 17th minute, while Habiba Lamrani scored in the 22nd minute to give the Jennies a four-goal advantage at halftime.
UCM added its fifth goal early in the second half when Emilee Person scored in the 48th minute, with Maryn Clement recording her second assist of the match.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kennady Krebs played all 75:21 of the match for the Mustangs, making nine saves. Krebs recorded four saves in the opening half before adding five more stops in the second half.
The match was finalized in the 76th minute due to lightning in the area.
SMSU begins their NSIC campaign next weekend at home, first against Minnesota Duluth on Friday at 3 p.m., before hosting Bemidji State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
