Kevin Tomasiewicz is in his second season with the Mustang baseball program in 2011 and will serve again as the team's pitching coach.
During his first season as pitching coach in 2010, the Mustang pitching staff amassed a 4.69 earned run average, the program’s lowest since 1999 and ranked 52nd in the country. SMSU also ranked 34th nationally in walks per nine innings, and walked the fewest batters in program history since 1997. Mustang pitcher Adam Schrader was named first team All-NSIC and was drafted in the 39th round of the MLB draft by the San Diego Padres.
Tomasiewicz, a native of Sleepy Hollow, Ill., was a four-year standout pitcher for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater from 2002-05 and helped lead the Warhawks to the 2005 NCAA Division III national championship.
During his senior season in 2005, Tomasiewicz finished 15-1 with a 2.83 earned run average in 108 innings pitched and earned second team All-America honors. He finished his four-year career with a record of 35-5, setting school and conference records for victories in a career.
Following his career, Tomasiewicz was selected in the 26th round of the 2005 MLB draft by the New York Mets and played three-plus seasons in the team's minor league system recording a 17-8 record and a 4.04 ERA in 132 career games. He finished his professional career in 2008 playing for two teams in the Northern League.
Tomasiewicz is a graduate of Wisconsin-Whitewater and is pursuing his master's degree at SMSU.
