    Volunteer Assistant Coach
Jeff Hansen is in his 14th season as a volunteer coach at SMSU in 2015-16. Prior to joining the SMSU staff, Hansen compiled 12 years of coaching experience as an assistant and head coach at the high school level. 

His head coaching experience includes two seasons as head boys’ basketball coach at Minneota High School and one season as girls’ head basketball coach at Irene High School in Irene, S.D. 

He also spent seven years as an assistant boys’ coach at Russell-Tyler-Ruthton High School and two years as boys’ assistant at Minneota. 

Hansen played two seasons of football at the University of Minnesota-Waseca where he earned his associate degree before earning his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Southwest Minnesota State University in 1997. He completed his master's degree in special education from SMSU in 2007.
   
He is currently the assistant principal at Marshall Middle School.

Jeff and his wife Kari, live in Tyler, Minn., with their three sons Cooper, Carter and Camden.
