Taylor Schafer is in his second season as an assistant coach at SMSU in 2020-21.
Schafer is no stranger to SMSU basketball as he recently completed an outstanding five-year member of the program from 2014-19. Schafer appeared in a school record 128 games during his four seasons, scoring 1,340 points while connecting on 242 3-pointers. He closed his career ranking fourth in team history in 3-point field goals made, fourth in 3-point field goals attempted (614), sixth in field goals attempted (1,150), 10th in field goals made (501) and 11th in scoring.
Schafer was a member of SMSU's 2017 and 2018 NCAA Tournament teams and played in three straight NSIC Tournament championship games which included a championship in 2017. He was also a member of SMSU's back-to-back NSIC South Division title teams in 2017 and 2018.
Schafer is a 2019 graduate of SMSU with a degree in human resource and is pursuing his master's degree at SMSU.
