Hanna Geistfeld is in her fourth season as an assistant women's basketball coach at SMSU in 2025-26. After serving as a graduate assistant her first season, she was elevated to assistant coach in April of 2023.
During her three seasons on the sideline, SMSU has racked up 66 victories, advanced to the NSIC tournament semifinals three times and played in one NCAA Central Region Championship game. The 2024-25 team put together one of the best seasons in team history, closing with a 28-5 overall, placing second in the NSIC standings and advancing to the NCAA region championship game.Â
Geistfeld, a native of Truman, Minn., was a five-year standout at Bethany Lutheran College, including earning All-American and conference player of the year accolades during her senior season in 2021-22. In her final season, she averaged 26 points and 13 rebounds per game in earning D3hoops.com first team All-American. She closed her final season shooting 60 percent from the field and 79 percent from the free throw line. She was also named a CoSIDA Academic All-American for her success in the classroom.
Geisfeld, who was named UMAC Player of the Year as a junior in 2021, finished her career scoring 2,276 points, while making 866 field goals and grabbing 1,086 rebounds. During her senior season she became just the 20th player in Division III history to reach 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career.
Geistfeld is a 2022 graduate of BLC and earned her master's degree in education and sports leadership from SMSU.
