Zack Vogelsberg is in his third season as assistant coach at SMSU in 2012-13. Prior to SMSU, he spent three seasons as an assistant at Union College (Ky.).
During his three-year tenure at Union College, an NAIA Division II school located in Barbourville, Ky., Vogelsberg helped lead the team to 67 victories, two regular season conference titles, one conference tournament title and an appearance at the NAIA National Tournament. He coached eight all-conference players, including a three-time All-America and three-time conference player of the year.
Prior to coming to Union College, Vogelsberg spent one season (2006-07) as an assistant coach at Saint Mary's University in Winona, Minn., and one season (2005-06) as the assistant coach at Frostburg State University (Md.), which finished 18-10 and advanced to the ECAC South Region Postseason Tournament.
Vogelsberg began his coaching career at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minn., spending three seasons (2002-05) as an assistant coach. During his tenure at Bethel, he helped bring a team that had won under five games for seven consecutive seasons to double-digit wins by the time of his departure.
Vogelsberg is a 2002 graduate of the University of Iowa with a degree in marketing and a minor in psychology, while earning his master’s degree in health and physical education at Union College in 2009. During his tenure at Iowa, he served four years as a manager for the women's basketball team as well as a practice player.
Zach and his wife, Gina, live in Marshall with their son, Jackson.
