SMSU Suffers a 88-52 Loss to University of Minnesota in Exhibition Action

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN.:  The Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs men's basketball team were within five points of the University of Minnesota at halftime (38-33) but had a cold shooting second half to suffer a 88-52 loss in its second exhibition game of the season.

SMSU shot 14.3 percent in the second half as Ross DeMasi hit a jumper in the first 13 seconds of the second half and then the Mustangs didn't score another field goal until 1:10 left in the game as Kevin Andrews hit a jumper.

The Mustangs finished shooting 39% from the field after having a 51.9 shooting percentage in the first half of play.  The University of Minnesota shot 55.9% from the field and 38.5% from 3-point range.

SMSU was led by senior Travis Krenske who had 17 points in the game, with 14 of them coming in the first half of play.  Krenske finished 5-of-8 from the field and 4-for-6 from 3-point range.  Andrew Peschong added nine points while Ross Demasi had eight.

Nick Dale had a team-high five rebounds while Matt Fletcher led the team with five assists.

SMSU will begin regular season play at home on Nov. 17 hosting  the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) at 7 p.m. in the R/A Facility.
