KISSIMMEE, FLA.:  Amanda Johnson tossed five innngs of relief allowing just three hits leading Southwest Minnesota State to a 6-2 victory over Wayne State (Mich.) on Sunday morning at the Rebel Spring Games.

Amanada Burkhart paced the Mustang offense with two hits and two RBI while Jessica Paczosa added two RBI.

The Mustangs started off the first inning with a couple of walks which allowed Amanda Tucci to hit an RBI single to left field, driving in the first run of the game.  Amanda Opatz followed that up with another RBI single to score the secon run.

SMSU then had a big fourth inning, scoring four runs.  Freshman, Katie Turner, who was pinch hitting for Emily Theno, started off the inning with base hit up the middle.  Andrea Fennern reached base on an error by the Wayne State third baseman, which also allowed the runners to advance to second and third.  Jessica Paczosa then came up and hit long ball to the fence scoring the two runs but tried to stretch it into a triple and was called out at third.  This was followed by two more singles from Erin Dickhausen and Meaghan Laetsch.  A few batters later, Amanda Burkhart hit a single up the middle to drive in the Mustangs final two runs.

SMUS finished with 10 hits and two errors while Wayne State had nine hites and two errors as well.

SMSU is 2-1 on the season and will continue action on Sunday at 2 p.m. CDT versus St. Xavier (Ill.).
