MARSHALL, MINN.:
Southwest Minnesota State scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win 5-4 in game one and won 5-1 in game two over Wayne State on Wednesday in Marshall. The No. 7 Mustangs are now 23-7 overall and 7-0 in the NSIC.

SMSU trailed 4-0 after the top of the sixth inning. With one out, Amanda Burkhart scored Southwest's first run in the bottom of the sixth after a single by Amanda Opatz when the left fielder for Wayne State bobbled the ball. However, the Mustangs left two runners on base.

In the bottom of the seventh, Andrea Fennern led off with a single to right, followed by a single by Jessica Paczosa up the middle. A WSC wild pitch advanced the duo to second and third before Meaghan Laetsch grounded out to second to bring in Fennern. Erin Dickhausen then drilled a 1-1 pitch over the left field wall to tie the game at 4-4. A single by Burkhart, a walk to Opatz and a single by Amanda Tucci loaded the bases with one out for Kiley Petersen. The freshman hit a sacrifice fly to left to drive in Burkhart for the winning run.

Dickhausen and Fennern each led SMSU with three hits.

Amanda Johnson earned the win on the mound, throwing a complete game, while striking out 11. Johnson broke two SMSU career records in the game as she broke innings pitched and most complete games.  After the two games, she has 597.2 career innings pitched as the record was held at 587.0 innings pitched.  She also owns the complete games pitched record at 67, the previous record was 65.

In game two, after an unearned run by the Wildcats in the top of the first, it was all SMSU.

Tucci belted a solo home run to left-center in the second. In the third inning, Burkhart drove in Paczosa and Dickhausen with a three-run shot to left field. Petersen rounded out the scoring with a solo homer  to left in the fourth.

Johnson earned her second win of the day with another complete game and five strikeouts.

The Mustangs host Winona State on Thursday at Mustang Field with a 2 p.m. start.
