SMSU Completes Perfect Day at NSIC Crossover

BISMARCK, N.D.:
The No. 7 Southwest Minnesota State softball team won 9-0 over Minnesota State Moorhead at the NSIC Crossover in Bismarck, N.D., on Saturday.  The win was SMSU's third of the day and brings the Mustangs to 28-7 overall this spring and 12-0 in the NSIC.

Amanda Johnson pitched all six innings and struck out eight.  Amanda Tucci blasted a two-run home run for the Mustangs and Amanda Opatz went 3-for-4 at the plate with four runs batted in.

SMSU started off scoring two run in the second inning and then added two more in the third.  In the second, Opatz led off the inning with a single up the middle.  Tucci then hit a three run bomb over the left field fence to score the Mustangs first two run.

In the second SMSU added two more as the bases were loaded for Opatz who hit a single to left field to score two runs. The Mustangs then opened the game up in the sixth inning scoring five runs.  Kristin Braden started the inning with a walk and later scored on a RBI single from Jessica Paczosa.  Meaghan Laetsh then hit a single which was followed by a Erin Dickhausen double to score the second run of the inning. Opatz then came up with another big hit, smacking a double to right field allowing two more runs to score. The inning was finished out with an unearned run due to Tucci reaching on a MSU Moorhead error.

SMSU will be back in action tomorrow at 12 p.m. versus Bemidji State.
