Silke, Johnson Combine for Shutout

Box Score

BISMARCK, N.D.:
Sara Silke and Amanda Johnson combined for a two-hit shutout as the Southwest Minnesota State softball team defeated Bemidji State 4-0 on Sunday at the NSIC Crossover in Bismarck.  SMSU is now 29-7 and 13-0 in the NSIC.

Silke went four-plus innings, allowing just two hits, while striking out seven.  Both hits came to leadoff the fifth inning, before the Mustangs went to Johnson, who pitched three perfect innings of relief with eight strikeouts for the save.

SMSU jumped on top in the top of the first as Jessica Paczosa and Meaghan Laetsch led off with back-to-back singles to start the inning.  Erin Dickhausen came up next and reached on an error, allowing Paczosa to score, but Laetsch was thrown out at the plate.  However, Dickhausen advanced to third and scored on Amanda Burkhart's ground out to make the score 2-0.

The Mustangs did not strike again until the seventh when they scored two more times.  Amanda Opatz scored on a wild pitch and Johnson drove in Micki Seibring with an RBI double to left.
